Abstract:Static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) can control the line power and improve the transmission capacity and flexibility of the power grid, but it can't control the active power and reactive power independently. In some cases, there may be operation dead-zone, so the operation characteristics of SSSC need to be analyzed in detail. Based on the structure characteristics and basic principles of SSSC, this paper analyzes the power characteristics of SSSC when changing the line power in different initial operating conditions by theoretical calculation and vector diagram analysis. It is concluded that if SSSC does not use DC auxiliary power supply, there will be a dead-zone of capacitive compensation when the initial active power and reactive power of the circuit are reversed. Furthermore, the results of theoretical analysis are verified by simulation, which provides a reference for the design and operation control of SSSC engineering applications.
