Abstract:Lightning is still a major factor jeopardizing the security and reliability of power grid operation. Based on the thought of differentiated lightning protection, designed visual interfaces in Visual Basic 6.0 programming language and combined with MS Excel 12.0 components and Access 2003 database platform, a set of procedural and intelligent lightning strike risk assessment system for power lines is designed and implemented. It realizes the full procedure from computing the lightning trip-out rate to assessing the levels of lightning flashover risk of batch towers along a power line, as well as finding out the weak spots. It has functions of inputting, adding, deleting, revising, outputting and saving data. It is convenient for users to access the lightning weak spots quickly. Thus, the system can forecast the effect of lightning protection design for power lines and be guidance for lightning protection work.
