Abstract：We first gave an introduction in this paper to the present situation of covering ice of overhead lines in china, the harms caused by covering ice on the line and types of covering ice of overhead lines in China, reasons and conditions of the formation of covering ice, as well as the influence of different types of covering ice on power grid. Then, we introduced the current research situation of covering ice of overhead lines both at home and abroad, among which the research methods include online inspecting, weighing and dip-angle of wire. What's more, some methods of mechanical deicing, short circuit and thermal deicing and the respective conditions of using them were also mentioned in this paper.
