Abstract:The voltage source converter based high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) power grid provides an effective solution for the development and utilization of large-scale renewable energy. This paper introduces the problem of renewable energy integrated into VSC-HVDC in the island mode, which causes the fault range to expand, and through the comparison of several power surplus control schemes, the scheme of AC chopper is selected to realize fault ride through. The configuration scheme solves the power surplus problem in the new energy island mode by the fast switching of AC chopper, and the feasibility of using AC chopper to realize the fault ride through under the new energy island mode is verified by simulation.
