Abstract This paper presents a overall design scheme of the UHF (Ultrahigh Frequency) partial discharge on-line detection method in 1000kV GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear). The high frequency discharge signal is processed by the signal conditioning circuit, then the information is sent to the information acquisition and processing unit with the TMS320 microcontroller as the control core, and the final results are displayed by the upper computer software. Using the system to simulate the four kinds of insulation defects, the characteristics of the high frequency detection method are obtained. The system successfully found a GIS 1000kV basin insulator fault, the practical application effect is good.
