Abstract Load forecasting is the basis of grid planning, take the electricity consumption of the whole society as an example, this paper predicted the load during the planning period of the 13th five-year grid by trend extrapolation model, grey model and its improved model. Then, the power load forecasting software with lots of functions was developed based on Matlab GUI, the software can implement importing, modifying and saving of the survey data. A variety of prediction models can be used to predict the power load based on the software, and the results can be analyzed and evaluated in the forecasting system, and it has universality and practicability, which can be used by grid planning staff.
