Abstract This paper calculates air gap and discharge voltage, defines air gap requirements of 500kV substation in high altitude area, then analyzes voltage characteristic of disconnector used for 500kV high voltage shunt reactor, optimizes the breakage of disconnector. Optimized disconnector meets the actual engineering layout requirements. It is of practical significance to enrich the equipment selection in high altitude area.
