Abstract  Frequent arc break and electrode open-short-circuiting of the arc furnace during operation can cause severe voltage fluctuation and flicker in the power supply bus. For the high-quality and stable grid, a pre-evaluation of fluctuation and flicker of the arc furnace connected to the grid is required. Based on the existing national standard, a practical calculation method for the electric arc furnace load voltage fluctuation and flicker evaluation was presented in this paper. The voltage fluctuation and flicker caused by the multi-bar access of various types of arc furnaces and its control suggestions can be known by this method under such complicated situation. The feasibility of the proposed method was verified by an example of arc furnace loads in actual substation.
