Analysis and improvement for AC fault ride-through failure event in Xiamen flexible HVDC transmission project

Abstract  This paper analyzes the AC fault ride-through failure event of converter station caused by an external fault in Xiamen ±320kV flexible HVDC transmission project. The connection mode and configurations of the project are introduced, the process and phenomenon of the event are described, and the causes of the event are analyzed and pointed out in this paper. In combination with the Xiamen flexible HVDC transmission improvement project, the optimization scheme for the valve control system, the pole control system and the pole protection system is proposed. Through the simulation under various operating conditions, the feasibility of the scheme is verified, and the experience can be used as reference for similar improvement projects.
