Abstract Based on the analysis of the necessity and characters of reactive power optimization of distribution network, active power loss and voltage deviation are included in the mathematical model. using elitist strategy to improve the traditional genetic algorithm, taking the real class number of shunt capacitor into account when calculating the mathematical model. The performance of IEEE 33-node shows that the proposed method can convergence steadily and reduce the active power loss and provides a reference value for practical power system.
