The Case on the Application of the Ultrasonic Method in the Internal Defect Detection of Tank-type Circuit Breakers |

Abstract Based on the general principle of ultrasonic detection of partial discharge (PD), the basic characteristics of defects, such as corona discharge, suspended discharge and free metal particles are analyzed. The ultrasonic PD tests on the 500kV tank-type circuit breakers in the substations under the jurisdiction of one maintenance company show that the PD ultrasound signal of the 5031 A phase breaker in Jiangjia camp substation exceeds the standard seriously, and 100Hz relevance is obvious. Gas component analysis shows normal. The breaker internal shield is determined to appear loose or floating potential initially. After the disintegration of the circuit breaker, bolts were found loose. Then the thread locking agent was used and the PD ultrasonic signal is back to normal.
