Abstract A novel three-phase three-switch buck-type rectifier based on pulse width modulation technology. The rectifier has realized the active control of each bridge arm by adding controllable switch in each bridge arm of the traditional three-phase bridge uncontrolled rectifier circuit, according to the switch tube power loss and the analysis of the ac side’s harmonic current, a modulation method based on minimum power loss is presented. The circuit topology has the advantages of simple structure, less number of controllable switch tube, and easy control, which can realize the function from ac to dc buck rectification, the circuit topology also has a lot of satisfactory characteristics such as small aberration rate of ac side’s current and stable dc output voltage etc. Finally, the correctness of the theoretical analysis is verified by simulation, and it is obvious that the circuit topology with satisfactory characteristics will be wide use in the foreseeable future.
