The Calculation of the Leakage Inductance of the Common Mode Choke based on Finite Element Analysis |

Abstract Common Mode Choke is an important magnetic component of EMI filter. leakage inductance of CM choke can be used as differential mode inductors to attenuate differential mode noise. when leakage inductance is small, it may not meet the requirements of differential-mode noise attenuation, however when it is big, it is easy to cause core saturation, so leakage inductance of the common mode choke is a parameter needed to be optimized and predicted. Based on finite element analysis, some 3-D common mode chokes of different sizes, different angles between two windings are simulated. Based on the relationship between simulated inductances and CM choke sizes, angles between two windings,we can derive mathematical model of the leakage inductance of the common mode choke. The sample measurements verify the correctness of the mathematical model.
