Abstract The starting currentof direct-on-line startingwayused for 380V electric induction motors in nuclear islandisso large that it easily impacts the evaluation of the motors’starting performance and even leads the upstream power supply protection misoperation and switches trip. This paper compares three kinds of starting current test methods, analysesthe differences between the test results and the standard requirements. Meanwhile, two types of main power protection configuration schemes are compared in this paper to researchsuitable protection measures for 380V electric induction motors in nuclear island.
