Abstract In this paper, a significant reduction of the resistive current is found in a lightning conductor on-line measurement. The season was found after analysis and test. On this basis, a measure is suggested for the first time under this condition. When defect occur on the arrester, if the base also has defect, the leak current will increase, and the measured current will remain meet the criterion. This means the experimental results are invalid. And extra experiment on the base and the body of the arrester is suggested.
