Abstract The suspended type of surge arresters had installed at 220kV substation from 2007, the electric power system was influenced by the series failure of the thermo-explosive Disconnector for surge arresters at 2010. The surge arresters and thermo-explosive disconnector were selected to test their characteristic of elemental performances, the test results show that performance of surge arresters meet to standard requirement, the mechanical strength decrease obviously due to sealing problem, and lead to disengaging abnormal. The paper was generalize the presence problem of thermo-explosive Disconnector, and the corresponding strategy was put forward.
