Abstract  The Fujian-Guangdong back-to-back DC transmission project is a landmark project for the interconnection of the State Grid and China Southern Power Grid. The application of hybrid active power filter (HAPF) and static var generator-active power filter (SVG-APF) in the project is still the first case in domestic conventional DC transmission projects. This paper introduces the first application scheme of APF in high voltage direct current project. The principle of HAPF and SVG-APF, secondary control-protection system and interface design scheme in the Fujian-Guangdong interconnection project are explained. And through corresponding technical measures, the difficulties of APF applying in high voltage field are overcome. It is expected to be a reference for other DC transmission projects.
