Influence of arc resistance model on very fast transient overvoltage in 1 000kV gas insulated switchgears |

Abstract The isolating switch in the gas insulated switchgear (GIS) generates a very fast transient overvoltage (VFTO) within a very short rise time when operating due to poor breaking performance. VFTO has the characteristics of short rise time and high amplitude, which cause serious harm to the insulation of electrical equipment. This paper studies the fixed arc resistance model, exponential arc resistance model, hyperbolic arc resistance model, Mayr arc electron model and reigniting arc resistance model by simulation, and obtains the amplitude and spectrum diagram of VFTO under each arc model. Meanwhile, the attenuation, oscillation and rise time of VFTO under each arc model are analyzed. It is concluded that the reigniting arc resistance model is more suitable for VFTO simulation.
