Performance analysis of a new partial discharge ultra-high frequency sensor |

Abstract Partial discharge phenomenon is the main manifestation of the deterioration of the insulating material of electrical equipment. How to effectively detect the partial discharge signal, so as to reduce the occurrence of electric insulating equipment breakdown accidents, is of great significance for the safe operation of power equipment. In this paper, a novel antenna connector (AC)-type partial discharge ultra-high frequency (UHF) sensor is developed for the existing external partial discharge sensor applied on Shanghai Siyuan gas insulated switchgear (GIS) basin insulators, and the structural design of the sensor is introduced. The experimental results show that the sensor designed in this paper has excellent performance in monitoring bandwidth and sensitivity, which can effectively improve the sensitivity of partial discharge monitoring and enhance the detection intensity by about 30dB compared with the conventional external local discharge sensor.
