Abstract Method of calculation of grounding grid parameters mainly includes two categories: empirical formulas and numerical calculations. However, the conventional method of calculation can only calculate the frequency grounding resistance of grounding grid, and to accurately assess the safety of grounding grid or not, the potential distribution of grounding grid, the potential gradient distribution, contact voltage, step voltage, etc. is also essential parameters. In this paper based on constant current field theory, the application of surface charge method and boundary element method used to prepare the ground Netcom calculation program, which not only can calculate the resistance of the grounding grid, but also calculate the surface potential distribution and other parameters. The same time with the data processing software to draw a three-dimensional surface plot got potential distribution and the potential gradient distribution histogram, grayscale and contour plots. By 220kV substation grounding grid, for example, to verify the accuracy and feasibility of this approach can provide the basis for the safety assessment of the substation ground grid.
