Abstract Live detection can detect potential defects of equipment in time. It is one of the important means to evaluate the running state of equipment. Detection and analysis of some internal parts looseness defects in 550kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) are introduced. The defects are diagnosed and located by ultrasonic method, ultra-high frequency method partial discharge technology and X-ray imaging technology. Disassembly inspection confirms that the defects are caused by the loosening or falling off of the fastening bolt of the particle trap in GIS.
