Abstract Instantaneous reactive power theory was presented in this paper, also analyzed the p-q method and the ip-iq method of testing the harmonic and reactive current. Then based on the single-phase instantaneous reactive power theory, a new way to detect harmonic current was proposed and was simulated to show it.
