Abstract  Growing harmonic pollution problems cause serious harm to the safe and economic operation of power system. It is necessary to separate the emission level of power system and customers. In this paper, the harmonic emission level assessment methods based on independent random vector covariance characteristics and binary linear regression were used to calculate the system harmonic impedance and the background harmonic voltage. The system harmonic impedance and the background harmonic voltage were calculated by the simulation model at the platform of PSCAD and programming with Matlab, then customer harmonic emission level were evaluated. Through the evaluation results of the two methods and the comparative analysis of their characteristics, it was concluded that the two methods had their respective advantages and disadvantages in calculating harmonic impedance and the background harmonic voltage under different conditions.
