Cryogenic system design and electromagnetic characteristic comparative analysis of short-axis and long-axis HTS motor

In this paper, a cryogenic system suitable for large capacity high temperature superconducting (HTS) motor with short axis and long axis is designed. The characteristic of the proposed cryogenic system is that the rotary joint translating the refrigerant is no longer needed. Firstly, the heat load of the system is simulated with FEM method. From the simulation results it can be found that the system heat load is reduced and the cooling efficiency is improved. Finally, the electromagnetic characteristics of the two topologies are contrastive analyzed.
