Cooperation of Wind-hydro Hybrid Power based on the Genetic Algorithm

Abstract:Wind power and hydro power is one of the most promising renewable energy. The acceptance of large wind power is a problem because of the randomness and the fluctuation of wind power. Hydropower turbine can feasibly be used to compensate for fluctuation in wind, so the hydropower and wind power can be scheduled. According to the characteristics of the hydropower turbine, the genetic algorithm is used to set the PID parameters of the turbine. The simulation results show that the PID after genetic algorithm tuning has better control performance than conventional PID. The output of hydropower is used effective to compensate for output of wind power. The complementary system could provide a smooth power output, which reduces the impact on the grid.
