Abstract Distribution system reliability is analyzed based on Paladin DesignBase simulation platform in this paper. As a powerful and easy-to-use tool in comparison with the traditional power system analysis software, Paladin DesignBase not only can be used in power system static analysis, but also in dynamic simulation analysis. Firstly the main functions and features of Paladin DesignBase are presented. Then the basic steps of reliability analysis are illustrated, and the reliability indices given by Paladin DesignBase are listed. Finally, the reliability of an actual distribution system is calculated for illustrating the characteristics of Paladin DesignBase in such aspects as inputting of reliability parameters, computation of reliability indices and results outputting etc.
