Abstract This paper presents the optimum design of 220kV indoor substation using CDEGS software. The quantity of equalizing terrace can be greatly reduced when the touch potential difference exceeds the safety limits. The grid resistance is calculated by CDEGS software with precise soil model and the result is much more precise than the one calculated by the approximate methods.
