Abstract  The lightning disturbance accident of 500kV substation is one of the important reasons causing blackouts.So it is especially necessary to study on the lightning overvoltage of 500kV GIS substation.Calculation and analysis of lightning intruding surge is simulated and calculated by the electromagnetic transient program ATP-EMTP on the lightning stroke falls at the top point of towers of inlet lines of 500 kV GIS substation.Reasonable schemes in the application of GIS 500kV substation are discussed.The calculation results can be referred when lightning protection design and operation of 500kV GIS substation.
