Abstract Differentiation measures of lightning protection have been widely used in the transmission lines and achieved good effect. Comparing to transmission lines, distribution lines have significant differences on structure characteristics and lightning protection setting, so differentiation measures of lightning protection in the application of distribution lines require certain correction. By the analysis, it is believed that differentiation measures of lightning protection for distribution lines should first adopt the lightning disturbance risk assessment for a single line, then put forward corresponding lightning protection measures. Lightning protection for transmission lines can also be reference for distribution lines under some special conditions.
