Abstract In this paper, combined with the practical application of automatic generation control (AGC) system and automatic voltage control (AVC) system in solar photovoltaic plant, the basic functions, application methods and control strategies of AGC/AVC are briefly described. AGC/AVC mainly consists of three parts, the AGC/AVC host, communications manager, AGC/AVC workstation, the AGC/AVC host for data processing and control strategy generation, communications manager for the distribution of data acquisition and control commands, the workstation for online monitoring and control personnel on duty, the AGC/AVC host can run independently, but also the overall operation. The practical application shows that the system is easily configurable and precise control, and it plays a positive role in maintaining the safe and stable operation of the power grid.
