Abstract The principle of the Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) in IEC 62439-3 is introduced. The basic structure of DANP and the principle of data frame operation are expounded in detail. In order to ensure the transmission performance of the communication network, a redundant discarding algorithm is implemented in Windows. The experiment shows that the substation communication network does not cause delay and can achieve seamless switching when single network fault occurs. The PRP network has the advantages of simple structure, high reliability and good economy, and will become one of the main research directions of the Intelligent Substation Communication.
