Abstract The development of modern distribution network technologies such as smart grid and distribution network automation puts higher demands on communication. The establishment of a power communication network through optical cables can meet this requirement, but the problem of pipelines occupied by optical cables cannot be ignored. The optical fiber composite medium-voltage cable introduced in this paper is a new type of cable that combines fiber and cable to save pipelines. And its functions combine communication and temperature measurement. The air-blowing OPMC pre-embeds the light unit, saving investment and having more advantages. Finally, OPMC has been applied in a specific distribution network and achieved good results.
