| Discussion for impact of direct current component on differential protection characteristics |

Abstract In order to improve accuracy of the differential protection’s action for power generator, in case of the current circuit contains direct current component and harmonics, Siemens protection device has a function by testing direct current component and then increase setting value. The action of differential protection of Siemens protection device when the loose connection happened in the current circuit was introduced. The impact of direct current component on differential protection characteristics was discussed, based on the differential protection action performance of generator, the current oscil- lograms of power generator’s two sides and the messages in differential protection action process, etc.
