Abstract  When designing a wind power system converter, the loss, cooling, and maximum operating temperature of the device determine the physical limits of the converter design. When the power device is operating in a set safe operating area, conduction losses and switching losses dominate the total loss of the device. In this paper, the theoretical analysis and simulation calculations of the losses of different types of switching devices are carried out. From the perspective of the loss of the device itself, the basic principle of selecting different power devices is described in the design of the power device of the converter, which is the power of the converter. Device selection and loss analysis provide the necessary reference.
