Abstract With the advance of test pattern condition monitoring of 10 kV switchgear, the ultrasonic method, TEV and UHF method are applied to carry out the live testing of 10 kV switchgear. In this paper, the 10 kV High Voltage Switchgear in the 110 kV Yushu Substation is used as an example to investigate various partial discharge techniques including ultrasonic method, TEV and UHF method. The comprehensive diagnosis of the PD type and location was conducted. The final open cabinet inspection proves the accuracy and effectiveness of the comprehensive diagnosis. The results also indicate that all three techniques are suitable for PD detection of switchgears and the combination of the three methods significantly improves the capability of status inspection, suspected fault trace, fault diagnosis and localization with corporation oneself in advantages and disadvantages.
