Abstract  Due to high loss density, cooling difficulties, high speed asynchronous motors are easy to occur reduction of winding insulation life and even failure. So accurately calculating motor loss and predicting the temperature field are particularly important. In this paper, a high speed asynchronous motor with a rated speed of 40000r/min is designed for studying, and its loss is analyzed wholly. Based on the method of magnetic-heat coupled FEM, the whole temperature field of the motor is calculated accurately, and the results of temperature field are compared with the experimental results. The research has shown that: the rotor's iron loss of the high speed asynchronous motor can be ignored, and after the rotor runs above a certain speed, its temperature rises with exponential rule, and temperature monitoring is also needed. Meanwhile, the method of magnetic-heat coupled has a certain accuracy.
