Abstract For a 220kV gas-insulated metal-enclosed switchgear bus pillar insulator break defect, which caused the C-phase busbar conductor to fall off and discharge to the cylinder, causing the B and C phases short circuit, at last caused a three-phase short-circuit fault, leading to the action of the #2 busbar differential protection. The diagnostic test and disintegration check were carried out. According to the analysis, the process requirements of #2 busbar pillar insulators were not strictly enforced during the pouring process, the mechanical strength was reduced, it was the main reason for the accident during operation. Finally, corresponding improvement measures and suggestions were proposed.
