Abstract Aiming at the existing distribution transformer nameplate loss, the discrepancy of nameplate capacity and actual capacity in actual operation causing directly the avoidable economic loss to the power supply enterprise and the safe and stable operation risk of power grid and so on, in this paper a new transformer capacity online measurement method is proposed. In the different loads, the primary side and secondary side voltage current of running transformer are measured, the transformer short-circuit impedance value is calculated, and the actual capacity of running transformer is obtained by short-circuit impedance algorithm. In this paper, the Matlab/Sumlink simulation experiments on the different capacities of distribution transformers are made, and the simulation data show that the error is very small between the capacity of online measuring through this algorithm and the actual capacity, and this method has good stability, simple operation, and it can realize the online measurement of transformer capacity.
