Abstract Under the background of new engineering education, this study conducts an in-depth exploration of the open experimental teaching system for electrical engineering. Firstly, the paper analyzes the shortcomings of the existing teaching modes, such as the disconnection between theory and practice and low student participation. Subsequently, based on the outcome-based education (OBE) concept and adopting the problem-based learning (PBL) teaching mode, the students' enthusiasm for active learning is inspired and their ability to solve complex engineering problems is cultivated. The paper provides a detailed discussion of the reform measures of teaching contents, teaching modes and evaluation systems. Taking the open experimental teaching of electrical engineering at the Institute of Electronics and Computer of Jilin Jianzhu University as an example, this paper demonstrates the practical application effects of these reform measures. This study offers theoretical support and practical cases for the reform of open experimental teaching in electrical engineering, which is conducive to improving teaching quality and students' engineering practical abilities.
