Abstract：Relay protection equipment of smart substation achieves the characteristics of sampling digital, information sharing, control network, and thus have the potential to carry out the monitoring of the status of mechanical and electrical equipment. In order to completing the relay protection status monitoring more conveniently and more intelligently, the problem what need to be considered to realize condition monitoring the advantages and disadvantages of device monitoring method based on network packet analysis are summarized. It is proposed how to realize condition monitoring of the relay protection in smart substation based on network packet analysis and what information need to be monitored. Finally, the feasibility of the method is demonstrated.
