Abstract Cogging torque could seriously affect the starting performance of the permanent magnet wind generator and the research of its reduction method is greatly meaningful to diminish the starting resistant moment and increase electricity production. A 100kW, 750r/min permanent magnet synchro- nous wind generator was investigated in this paper, and the analytical method and finite element method are applied to study the influence of changing the flux-barrier shape on the cogging torque.Apart from its practical value, the presented technique could provide certain references for designing the interior permanent magnet synchronous wind generator.
