Abstract The protection performance of the three kinds of stator side criteria is analyzed based on a practical loss of excitation accident, the essential relationship between these criteria and the selection method in practical application are indicated, which is instructive for understanding the changing process of all electric quantities in the process of loss of excitation and the setting calculation of actual protection devices.
