Abstract In this paper, analyze the cause of the unit's loss of magnetic failure when the excitation system of Hohhot Pumped Storage Power Station is connected to the grid under the mode of pump. Modify the control mode of the load commutated inverter starting system and the synchronous device according to the control flow of each system before the generator connection. And the judgment condition of the excitation system operation mode is added in the monitoring system. Finally, achieve reliable generator connection of the excitation system under the pump mode.
