Abstract 2G services are disabled by some operators with the development of communication technology, which has forced the early terminals of distribution network fault location system using 2G communication to deactivate. Based on improving the utilization rate and ensuring the practical value in the life cycle of the terminal, an upgrade and reconstruction scheme for the distribution network fault location system based on the internet of things (IoT) communication technology is proposed in this article. Through actual measurement and verification, the proposed solution can solve the “one-remote” terminal deactivation rate and ensure the reliable operation of the terminal, which also provides a useful reference for the efficient and economic operation of the distribution network fault location system.
