Abstract The backup power supply of distribution terminal is generally divided into two types: storage battery and super capacitor. The storage battery has a long power supply time but a short life, and the super capacitor has a long power supply time but a short power supply time under the same volume. The use of super capacitor can reduce the workload of on-site operation and maintenance personnel. This paper introduces a power distribution terminal which runs with dynamic power consumption. Its power consumption can change in real time according to the operation condition of the terminal. It runs with full power when the external power supply is available, providing all functions and operation capabilities. When the external power loss and certain conditions are met, the terminal enters a low power mode to reduce operating power consumption. Without increasing the backup power capacity, it can significantly extend the backup power supply time of the super capacitor as backup power, reduce the pressure of on-site operation and maintenance and have a good application prospect.
