Abstract In order to promote the application of traveling wave ranging technology in the field of distribution network fault location, this paper provides the configuration principles and fault location methods of traveling wave ranging fault monitoring points suitable for overhead lines. 10 kV external distribution network traveling wave ranging device is installed. The effectiveness of this method is verified through practical application cases. Results show that the proposed method can achieve accurate positioning of distribution network faults, improving the efficiency of distribution network fault disposal.
